CO-CURRICULUM ACTIVITY - SPORTS

It has been often debated in the recent past, whether sports should be compulsory at school or not! It cannot be denied that sports enhance the abilities of the child and develop challenging spirits. In the age of television, computer and video games, school students are becoming highly inactive which consequently leads to obesity in their later life. So, we at South City International School believe that sports activities should be encouraged from the very early days. Sports and outdoor games play a very important part in development of a healthy and fit body. Therefore we have incorporated Outdoor as well as Indoor school sports activities in our curriculum. Training is given by qualified, dedicated and experienced coaches which caters to the all-round development of a child.

Sports activities we have taken up are as follows :

Cricket happens to be one of the most popular game in India. We have 3 sets of Cricket pitches for practice match. For regular games the lush green turf is used.

Football (soccer) is the second most popular sports in India, next to cricket. It is played extensively in the country. We have an extravagant lush green turf for playing foot ball.

Table tennis, also known as ping pong, is the most popular racket sport in the world, with over 300 million active members of governing association worldwide. We have 3sets of Table Tennis boards and a complete indoor arrangement for playing the same.

Badminton gets its name from Badminton House in Gloucestershire, England — the home of the Duke of Beaufort, where the sport was played in the last century. Before Badminton House, there was a game called Poona (a game played by British Army officers stationed in India). We have an extensive outdoor Badminton court & the same facility has been created in the multipurpose hall as well.

The game involves elements of American football, soccer, and hockey, and the first ball used was a soccer ball. We do have a huge basket ball court with experienced & reputed coaches for proper training.

Karate is a martial art developed in the Ryukyu Islands in what is now Okinawa, Japan. Since it is highly dynamic and makes balanced use of a large number of body muscles, it provides excellent all-around exercise and develops coordination and agility. Karate training is done by highly qualified Karate teachers in the school.

According to the researchers, breathing work outs, stretching, relaxation and meditation keeps heart in a healthy condition as the pulse rate variability of yoga practicians showed indication of firmer control by the parasympathetic nervous system.
